Anyone out there getting more and more anonymous comments on their blogs?
I have been painstakingly deleting them without opening but this week decided to pop them into my spam folder - I have had 38 since Sunday.
I hate word verification but I get cross at all these emails, the spammers don't even have the sense to make their comments on recent blog post titles, so obvious that they are rubbish.
Recently I felt a bit empowered by taking action on the constant stream of telephone cold callers. We have been members of the Telephone Preference Service for ages but in the last couple of years this has not prevented these nuisance calls.
I signed up for BT Caller display so now every time the phone rings I check to see if it's a number I know - I get 5 or 6 a day where it says "Number unknown", "number withheld" or just a plain old number that I don't recognise. I don't answer and the call always stops after 3 rings, presumably their computer has found someone else who answers quicker.
So now I don't have to explain in detail why I don't want solar panels, a new kitchen or to make a claim for mis-sold financial whatsits!!
Now I just have to deal with doorstepper, not such a problem.
Climbing down from my soapbox now..........
I feel the same. I think we're in the majority.
ReplyDeleteMy spam has been increasing, though not at the rate yours has. I heard of someone suggesting altering your settings so you anonymous people couldn't make comments on the blog. Not sure if this would clear it but maybe worth a try.
ReplyDeleteI don't want to tempt fate but I get hardly any spam - unless it goes straight in the junk folder and I don't see it.
ReplyDeleteBloody spammers, haven't they got anything better to do?! Last month I altered the settings so that comments on posts over two weeks old need moderating - that seems to have slowed them down a little...
ReplyDeleteAs for doorstep salesmen - a barking dog straining to get out of the door works wonders! I frequently open the door and find they've retreated to the end of the drive...
P.S. I love caller ID - wouldn't be without it!!
Caller id is the best thing ever, I always screen my calls! Its so annoying though isn't it!
ReplyDeleteI've been getting heaps too! All of a sudden, I had not turn off comments on one post as it seemed to be attracting hem and getting ridiculous. I wonder if they pick up on key words in the blog title?
ReplyDeleteAm getting some spam but certainly not as much as others seem to get. The phonecalls on the other hand are appauling. We are on the BT privacy thingy, but still get calls all day every day. Had 7 in a 2 hour period a couple of days ago. Drives me NUTS.
ReplyDeleteDon't ever get spam, but I don't allow anonymous commenters, and apparently it's too much effort to sign up and spam me lol I don't get calls or doorsteppers either, nobody loves me *sniff*
ReplyDeleteDeep breath and climb down off your soap box. It sounds as if we all have problems with spam/ phone calls etc. caller I'd is great. Do you feel better now? A problem shared and all that. Di x
ReplyDeleteI haven't had any anon commenters yet! Plenty of sales callers on the telephone though! Jxo
ReplyDeletei get one every once in a while they are bothersome
ReplyDeleteI don't get the spam at all thank goodness. As for telephone calls, well we do get them, but I only have to say "Do you speak English, and that gets rid of the vast majority!
ReplyDeleteHa only a few come my way but I'd try blocking the anonymous commenters as Katy and Susan suggest! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteYou could get some barking dog sound effects to put the doorsteppers off - or get the real thing!?
I have found Blogger pretty good at diverting spam comments, but I don't currently get as many as you are experiencing. I do disable comments on posts that they target too, which seems to stop it for a while.
ReplyDeleteI rarely get spam, or not ones that get through blogger anyway but I think stopping anonymous comments is probably a good idea!
ReplyDeleteI also used this site to stop all the nuisance from callers etc:
